MXDA is a typical product containing aromatic ring fatty amine compounds. It is produced from m-xylene by ammonia oxidation and hydrogenation.

 

Structure

MXDA contains aliphatic primary amine groups in its molecular structure and can be used as a room temperature curing agent. It contains a benzene ring in its molecular structure and the heat resistance of the cured product is superior to that of aliphatic polyamines.It is less irritating and less toxic than vinylamine.

 

Characteristics of MXDA used as epoxy resin curing agent

  • It is colorless and transparent in appearance, with no color phase burden on the cured substance.

  • It has low viscosity and is easy to handle.

  • It has low active hydrogen equivalent, low addition amount.

  • It has good chemical resistance to toluene,10%wt sulphuric acid.

  • It has good heat resistance stability.

  • It has good salt spray resistance.

 

Application Examples

  • MXDA has excellent resistance to acid, toluene and salt spray, etc. It can be used in conjunction with epoxy resin in bridge repair, pipeline coating, ship containers, flooring and other anticorrosive coatings. Especially in the humid environment performance of good adhesion adhesion.
  • MXDA is modified to synthesise water-based epoxy curing agent, which can shorten the surface drying time of epoxy coating film. The coating film has good gloss and hardness without affecting the impact resistance and flexibility of the coating film. It is especially suitable for the preparation of water-based anti-corrosion coatings.
  • MXDA can also be modified to prepare epoxy curing agent, which is widely used in the repair of bridge construction in wet environment.
