Epoxy floor coating diluent is a reactive additive that cuts viscosity so the mixed resin self-levels and wets the substrate. Yolatech supplies three types: BGE YLD-9004, cardanol glycidyl ether YLD-9006, and cardanol diglycidyl ether YLD-9014. They crosslink into the film rather than evaporating.
A reactive diluent carries an epoxy group, so it crosslinks into the network instead of evaporating. That separates it from xylene or acetone, which flash off, leave the film thinner than dosed, and contribute to shrinkage.
In a floor coating the goal is usually a wet film that levels itself, releases air quickly, and still cures hard enough to take fork-lift traffic.
| Product | CAS | EEW (g/eq) | Viscosity @25 °C (mPa·s) |
| YLD-9004A (BGE) | 2426-08-6 | 147–157 | ≤2 |
| YLD-9004B (BGE) | 2426-08-6 | 188–205 | ≤3 |
| YLD-9006 (cardanol) | — | 355–500 | 30–50 |
| YLD-9014 (cardanol) | — | 290–350 | 1,000–3,000 |
BGE is the cheapest way to drop viscosity and the obvious pick for solvent-free self-levelling screeds. It also carries the strongest odour of the three, and at high loading it pulls heat deflection temperature down.
Cardanol grades behave differently. YLD-9006 keeps a low viscosity of 30–50 mPa·s while adding flexibility, water resistance, and better adhesion — useful where the slab moves or the floor sees wash-down. YLD-9014 is thicker at 1,000–3,000 mPa·s and is normally used to toughen rather than to thin.
For a standard bisphenol A floor resin, BGE is dosed at 5–15 phr. Push past 20 phr and you feel it in cure speed and hardness. Cardanol ethers usually run 10–30 phr because their higher EEW means less network disruption per unit weight.
Because YLD-9006 and YLD-9014 carry reactive epoxy groups, they must be counted into the stoichiometric calculation against your hardener. Diluent added without adjusting hardener leaves unreacted resin and a soft film. Confirm the exact figure against our TDS before scaling up.
Pick BGE for cost-driven primer and mid-coat formulations. Pick YLD-9006 for topcoats in food plants, car parks, and chemical stores where flexibility and water resistance matter more than price. For wash-down areas that see thermal shock, an epoxy floor coating diluent with cardanol chemistry holds up better than a straight BGE grade.
