Glycidyl methacrylate (GMA, CAS 106-91-2) is a colorless transparent monomer that carries an epoxy group and a methacrylate double bond in one molecule. The published specification lists a minimum purity of 99 %, acid value max. 0.05 mgKOH/g and water max. 0.1 %, and it is supplied in drum packing.
The product page states that the molecule holds both a carbon-carbon double bond and an epoxy group, so it can take part in free-radical reactions and ionic reactions. That dual reactivity is why the grade is classed as a functional monomer.
The methacrylate double bond copolymerises with acrylic and vinyl monomers under free-radical initiation. The epoxy ring opens against carboxylic acids, amines and anhydrides by an ionic route. One molecule can therefore build the backbone through one site and crosslink through the other.
Two limits protect the epoxy group in storage. Acid value is capped at 0.05 mgKOH/g, which keeps free acid low, and water is capped at 0.1 %, since moisture consumes epoxy functionality.
Table 1. Specification published on the glycidyl methacrylate product page.

| Purity, % | Min. 99 |
| Acid value, mgKOH/g | Max. 0.05 |
| Water, % | Max. 0.1 |
| Solubility | Insoluble in water; soluble in most organic solvents |
| Shelf life | At least 12 months in original packing |
| Package | Drum |
The page does not publish epoxy equivalent weight or viscosity. A theoretical epoxy equivalent weight of about 142 g/eq follows from the molecular formula C7H10O3 at one epoxy group per molecule. That figure is calculated, not measured; confirm it against our TDS before any stoichiometric calculation.
Table 2. Typical addition ranges by application; no recommended loading is stated on the product page.
| Application | Typical addition | Dominant route |
| Powder coating binder | 5–15 % of the monomer charge | Free-radical copolymerisation |
| Adhesive and sealant | 5–20 phr on the base resin | Epoxy ring opening |
| Polymer modification and grafting | 2–10 % by weight of the base polymer | Free-radical grafting |
These are application ranges, not published specifications, and are given for reference. Loading is bounded by the epoxy content needed for crosslinking and by the exotherm of the methacrylate route, so confirm the level against the TDS before scale-up.
The published handling note calls for a well-ventilated store away from flames and direct sunlight, with the cap closed tightly after each use. Shelf life is stated as at least 12 months from the date of manufacture in the original packing at ambient temperature. Safety data are given in the MSDS.
Choose glycidyl methacrylate where one molecule must supply a polymerisable double bond and a curable epoxy group. In a conventional formulation it is dosed as a modifier into a base resin such as bisphenol A epoxy resin. The coating and adhesive routes are set out in the notes on epoxy resin coatings and epoxy resin adhesives.
Send the base resin grade and the target cure profile, and Yolatech will confirm the addition level. Start from the glycidyl methacrylate GMA specification.
